Role: Assistant Head of Year
Area: Cowplain, Hampshire
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time + 1 extra week
Days/Hours:

Monday–Thursday: 08:20 – 15:45
-
Friday: 08:20 – 15:40
Plus additional hours across the academic year for breakfast clubs, after-school sessions or meetings.
Salary: Grade D — £24,371 to £26,814, depending on experience

As Assistant Head of Year, you will support the Head of Year in maintaining high standards across a specific year group, ensuring students feel supported, motivated, and able to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:

Support behaviour, uniform and punctuality expectations across the year group.

Build strong, positive relationships with students, acting as a mentor and point of support.

Assist with pastoral interventions, wellbeing support, and individual mentoring.

Liaise with parents, teachers, support staff and external agencies when needed.

Promote positive attitudes, behaviour and attendance to improve wellbeing and academic outcomes.

Help to create a safe, nurturing and aspirational school environment.
Person Specification / Requirements:

Minimum GCSE Grade C/Level 4 in Maths & English.

High emotional intelligence and strong communication skills.

Ability to form positive and trusting relationships with young people.

Passionate about supporting students to become the best versions of themselves.

Experience working with secondary-aged students is desirable but not essential.

A calm, consistent and professional approach when dealing with challenging situations.
