Sports Coach

The Youth Education Service (TYES) is working in partnership with a Pupil Referral Unit in Fazakerley that supports students who have been or are at risk of being permanently excluded. We are recruiting for a Sports Coach to work within their KS3 site, delivering engaging and inclusive sports sessions to inspire and motivate students with social, emotional, and/or mental health issues (SEMH).

The school is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, flexible, reliable, resilient, and resourceful individual who can use sport as a tool to develop students’ confidence, teamwork, and resilience while supporting their overall wellbeing. As a Sports Coach, you will be working with small groups of secondary-aged students, leading structured PE lessons, facilitating extra-curricular sports activities, and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. You will also collaborate closely with teaching staff to ensure students are consistently working towards positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver a range of engaging sports sessions tailored to students with SEMH needs.
  • Promote the physical and mental health benefits of sports participation.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model.
  • Support the class teacher in embedding movement-based learning within the curriculum.

You must have:

  • passion for working with young people and using sport to inspire positive change.
  • Experience coaching or delivering sports activities to young people, ideally those with SEMH or challenging behaviours.
  • relevant coaching qualification (e.g., FA Level 1/2, UKCC Level 1/2, or equivalent in any sport) or willingness to work towards one.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage and motivate students.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices and a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Job description:

The Youth Education Service are currently working in partnership with a school in Wirral who are seeking a dedicated and passionate SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teacher to join their remarkable team of highly qualified staff. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a tailored curriculum to meet the diverse needs of a Year 9 pupil with complex needs. The Teacher will support the student on a 1:1 basis.

  • Deliver a personalised curriculum
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the pupils individual learning needs.
  • Liaise with support staff, therapists, and external agencies including parents to ensure development of the young person.
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress, implementing interventions where necessary.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH difficulties
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Nurturing but able to instil boundaries
  • Preferably fully inducted however if you have previous experience supporting children outside of teaching this will be considered.

The school provide a short stay provision to pupils for 12 weeks before they then re-integrate back into mainstream education. The school are seeking to appoint a dedicated and hardworking Support Assistant and are able to offer Teacher training for those who are keen to pursue a career as a Teacher.
